The aim of the method for detecting stocks of goods on goods carriers which automatically hold or carry the goods located on these in such a manner that they are continuously densely packed, is to determine a predetermined nominal stock on each individual goods carrier and, if possible, also to detect an actual stock on the goods carriers. This method is intended to provide for electronic interrogation of the stocks of goods. For this purpose, at least the nominal stock of goods is electrically, electronically or electromechanically directly detected on the goods carriers and this measurement value is supplied to a central electronic data processing unit.
