PURPOSE:To dispose a magnetic pole for obtaining a tracking signal on a magnetic pole for signal reproduction and perform high-precision tracking by forming a head element which detects and reproduces the tracking signal from a signal track. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic head 2 for main signal reproduction which consists of an MR element is formed on a substrate 1 and magnetic heads 3A and 3B for tracking signal reproduction which consist of MR elements similarly are formed thereupon through an insulating film provided inbetween. Then, the magnetic heads 3A and 3B are covered with a protection substrate 4. Those two magnetic heads 3A and 3B for tracking signals are arranged symmetrically about the magnetic head 2 for main signal reproduction and the overall width is set wider than that of the magnetic head for main signal reproduction. Those magnetic heads 3A and 3B and magnetic head 2 for signal reproduction may be provided with biases for the main signal and tracking signal either in common or individually. |
