PURPOSE:To obtain a reflection type electrochromic display which obviates the decrease in a shielding effect even in an electrolyte and has the metallic luster possessed by mica by using the mica on which a material having the refractive index higher than the refractive index of the mica is coated as a reflective pigment for a reflecting material. CONSTITUTION:There are many materials having the refractive index higher than the refractive index of mica including titanium, zircona, yttria and alumina, among which titania is most preferable in terms of the refractive index. The reflecting material may be the reflecting pigment dispersed into the electrolyte or the pigment printed into a sheet shape on a display electrode or counter electrode or the background plate molded into a sheet shape and disposed between the display electrode and the counter electrode. The reflecting material in the sheet shape is more preferable as such a phenomenon as the settling of particles does not arise. The sheet-shaped reflecting material is obtd. simply by mixing the reflecting pigment of the mica coated with the material having the high refractive index and adhesive agent and subjecting the mixture to printing, molding, etc.; for example, said material is manufactured simply by mixing the material with an adhesive agent such as fluororesin or glass frint and curing the mixture or mixing the same with an org. metallic compd. soln. and oxidizing and binding the mixture by calcination. |
