PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a space between an uncoiler and coil skid in which a coil material passes and the need for the instrument to be exclusively used for measurement by detecting the coil width by a coil detector provided in a coil car. CONSTITUTION:The distance Y from a reference line 7 to the end face of the coil is measured when the coil detector 6 detects one end face of the coil material 3 on a skid 4 after the coil car 5 starts moving in an un-coiler 2 direction. The measurement of the coil width W is started simultaneously therewith. The coil width W and the distance B from the coil end face to the center of the coil car 56 are calculated at the point of the time when the coil detector 6 detects the other end face of the coil material 3. The moving quantity Z of the coil car 5 is calculated from the resulted values W, B. The coil car 5 is run backward until the distance from the reference line 7 to the center of the coil car 5 attains Z. The coil material 3 is lifted in this position and is transferred onto the coil car 5 by a lifter. |
