A continuous mixer and kneader (K) for producing products in a fluid or paste condition has a housing and an axially aligned shaft. The shaft has a series of kneading arms at right angles to the axis and heated plates on which kneading vanes are fixed in the axial direction. The mixer is divided into two zones the first being designed to avoid the agglomeration of paste-like products through mixing with already reacted material. The first zone forms the inlet side of the mixer and has static vanes alternating with the moving vanes on the shaft. The second zone on the outlet side forms a holding area where processing is completed. In this zone the shaft has heated plates with kneading vanes and the opposing elements can be movable or rigidly attached to the housing. USE/ADVANTAGE - (K) is for thermal or chemical reaction processing of products in a fluid or paste condition. (K) avoids the agglomeration of material on the fixed, opposing kneading elements yet provides a good self-cleaning action and mixing effect.
