To produce sintered rings with thin walls, the material is pressed in a thin layer into a mould round a core. The core is removed from the ring by shrinkage or melting. The core material has a greater coefft. of expansion than the sintered ring, to shrink on cooling for removal, or the core is a ring which is expanded mechanically on insertion into the form so that it contracts for removal. ADVANTAGE - The rings can be produced to precise dimensions with no further mechanical finishing with min. waste. The ring is of the thickness of the grinding material such as diamond dust in a sintered metal powder carrier, esp. bronze powder.
