Two ends of a thermoplastic resin packing band (44,45) are overlapped and portions of the overlapped part caused to be heated. Heated portions are separated from other heated portions on both end pieces by non heated portions. The heated portions form molten and on cooling, with the application of pressure, weld the two ends together. The band thus welded has an overlapping part with welded portions (M) separated by non-welded portions (N).
