Invention applies to the production of 2,2'-azobisizobutyronitrile from 2,2'-hydrazobisizobutyronitril. It has been discovered that dehydratating can be successfully accomplished in an ambient temperature with copper (II) chloride in acetonitrile. The process can be carried out in two ways, taking 2,2'-hydrazobisizobutyronitril and copper (II) chloride in stoichiometric relations, or in catalytic regime, utilising oxygen (air), thus reducing the necessary amount of copper (II) chloride.
