PURPOSE:To enhance surface smoothness, by incorporating polyoxyethylene into a release layer adjacent to a base, and incorporating a coloring material into either one of a heat-softenable layer and the release layer, in producing a thermal transfer recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A release layer 2 and a heat-softenable layer 3 are provided on a base 1 in a laminate form to obtain a thermal transfer recording medium. The release layer 2 basically comprises a polyoxyethylene derivative and a heat-fusible substance, whereas the heat-softenable layer comprises a thermo plastic resin and a heat-fusible substance. A coloring material may be incorpo rated in either one of the release layer and the heat-softenable layer, and it is preferable to reduce the amount of the coloring material incorporated in the heat-softenable layer by incorporating the coloring material also in the release layer, from the viewpoint of printing quality such as ground contamina tion and voids. It is not necessary that each of the release layer and the heat- softenable layer is limited to be single. |
