The seat (1) is supported from the ground by a vertical column (2), while a slot (7) running to the column from its forward edge (6) accommodates the column of the chair above it in the stack. At the bottom end of the column is a foot (3), shaped so that parts of it fit round the column of the chair below it in the stack. The foot can be basically rectangular, with a triangular recess (8) whose base runs along its rear edge (9), while its apex is near the column.
