The switch has a contact device (1) with a driven movable contact piece (2) cooperating with a fixed contact piece (3), secured by a fixing device (14). The switching arc is extinguished by a gas blast provided via an insulator (6) adjacent the stationary contact piece. The fixed contact piece has a magnetic screening (17) in the zone between the fixing device and the insulator when the switch is closed, to ensure that the peripheral component of the magnetic field resulting from switching is eliminated within this zone.
