Separation of dissolved and/or emulsified and volatile contaminants from aqueous media (11) using a pervaporation membrane system (12) is new. The raw feed is supplied to the membrane, and a contaminant-enriched retentate (14) is separated. The retentate is sent, at least in part, to the contaminated inlet supply. Contaminants in the permeate (13) are separated out in a following process, as a liquid concentrate (16). A portion of the aqueous permeate freed, is supplied to the contaminated medium.
