PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic controller which can accurately recognize that a timer part (timer IC) is reset even the resetting is done carelessly. SOLUTION: In an ECU 10, a microcomputer 14 operates or stops according to a power supply state associated with the switching of an IG switch 22. A timer IC 12 continues time measurements irrelevantly to whether the microcomputer 14 operates or stops. The microcomputer 14 decides whether the timer IC 12 has been reset according to a history showing that a subordinate source voltage has dropped below data hold voltage. Alternatively, data held in an SRAM 13 are checked to decide whether the timer IC 12 has been reset. Further, the microcomputer 14 decides the failure of a water temperature sensor 25 from the soak time computed from the time data of the timer IC 12 and the detection value of a water temperature sensor 25 at the start of an engine, and inhibits the decision of sensor failure if the timer IC 12 is reset. |
