PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency in treating sewage containing scum using the method and the device according to this invention for treating scum in a sewage treatment plant. SOLUTION: The scum is separated at a settling pond, a conduit, or the like where it is yielded by means of a scum separator 21, and after shredding the coarse scum in the separated sewage by a shredding device 38, the shredded scum together with the sewage is fed with pressurized and air saturated water from a pressurized and air saturated water supplying device and the scum is floatation-thickened in a flotation thickening tank 42. The thickened scum is taken out by a thickened scum skimmer 44 and delivered to a scum coagulation tank 47. The coagulated scum goes to a scum dehydrator 48, and after dehydrated, it is disposed of finally.
