PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To significantly improve the work efficiency of an embroidery sewing machine by preventing an embroidery frame from moving as a needle is located lower than a prescribed position when the embroidery sewing is executed with the initial position of the needle being changed many times by moving the embroidery frame. SOLUTION: In an embroidery sewing machine 100 for sewing various embroidery patterns by selecting appropriate embroidery patterns and in an embroidery sewing machine 200 to be used for connecting embroidery, each embroidery sewing machine has a needle position detecting means for detecting the position of a needle, a needle position judging means for judging whether the needle is at an upper position or not, and a needle raising means for raising the needle to the upper position by rotating the main shaft when the needle is not at the upper position.
