PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a methine compound excellent in solubility in solvents and having good storability in the form of a composition by introducing a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl having the specified number of carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, alkenyl having the specified number of carbon atoms or a substituted aryl having the specified number of carbon atoms into the molecule. SOLUTION: This compound is one represented by the formula and is excellent in ultraviolet absorbing capacity and solvent solubility. In the formula, R1 and R4 are independently 1-9C alkyls R5 is an 8-22 C alkyl or alkenyl or a 12-24C substituted aryl.The unsubstituted alkyl of R1 to R4 is desirably a 2-4C unsubstituted alkyl. The substituent of the substituted alkyl is exemplified by an alkyloxy, a halogen, an aryl, hydroxyl or the like. The substituted alkyl is desirably a 1-6C one. The unsubstituted alkyl in R5 is octyl, nonyl, decyl or the like; and the unsubstituted alkenyl is 9-decenyl, 4,4methylvinyl-5-hexenyl or the like. When R5 constituent is a phenyl derivative, the compound exhibits good light resistance. |
