PURPOSE:To achieve high-speed operations and excellent printing quality, by providing a head-controlling circuit unit obtained by unitizing a head-controlling circuit for controlling the quantity of heat generated by a thermal head, between a CPU and the thermal head. CONSTITUTION:A head-controlling circuit unit 3 is constituted of, for example, a gate array. The unit 3 incorporates a data latch circuit as a kind of a storage circuit, and comprises data input terminals 5 connected to a data bus 16, address input terminals 6, a chip selection terminal 7 for detecting the designation of the unit according to predetermined address data from a CPU 4, a data latch timing input terminal, a plurality of energization pulse input terminals for determining energization times for heat generating elements 1a, and head-driving output terminals 10 for outputting driving signals to the respective heat generating elements 1a of a thermal head 1. Thus, it is unnecessary to perform data processing according to the past driving history by the CPU 4, so that high-speed processing can be carried out by the CPU 4, and printing speed is enhanced. |
