PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the structure of a variable valve mechanism for stepwise changing the opening and closing amounts of a valve according to the operation state of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: The variable valve mechanism 9 includes a rocker arm 20 composed of an input member 21 equipped with an input roller 23 rotatably abutting on a rotary cam 10 and an output member 26 abutting on the valve 7, and a switching mechanism 40 for switching between a connected state in which the input member 21 and the output member 26 are connected in a state of not being mutually relatively displaceable, and a connection released state in which the connection is released, and the opening and closing amounts of the valve 7 are changed by the switching. The switching mechanism 40 includes a connecting pin 45 provided displaceably between a position straddling the input member 21 and the output member 26 and a position not straddling the input member 21 and the output member 26, a hydraulic chamber 53 provided inside the rocker arm 20 for driving the connecting pin 45 by hydraulic pressure, and an oil passage 54 for supplying the hydraulic pressure to the hydraulic chamber 53.
