The method involves changing operating parameter of a wind energy plant corresponding to change in load working against the rotation of a rotor. A brake system is operated for changing the operating parameter, where the brake system is coupled indirectly to the rotor. The number of revolutions of the rotor is detected and controlled through the operation of the brake system. The torsion oscillation of a drive train provided in the wind energy plant is damped through the operation of the brake system. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a controlling and regulating unit (2) a wind energy plant.
