The present invention relates to an apparatus for opening or closing a gas valve. The gas valve can prevent damage and malfunction by preventing a large load from being generated to multiple gears and a driving motor for opening or closing a gas valve by manually operating the gas valve, and can reduce manufacturing costs by reducing assembling time due to a simple configuration. The apparatus for opening or closing a gas valve comprises: a speed reducing member; an output shaft having one end fixed and connected to the output side of the speed reducing member and the other end protruding toward the outside of the housing, and rotating to correspond to driving of a driving motor; a holding pin having one end inserted into the outer circumferential surface of the output shaft protruding toward the outside of the housing and the other end protruding from the outer circumferential surface of the output shaft; and a rotation gear unit preventing damage to the speed reducing member. The rotation gear unit is installed to be able to rotate and is not separated from the other end of the output shaft by a screw member, so the outer circumferential surface is engaged and connected with the gear unit formed at one portion of the outer circumferential surface of the rotation member for opening or closing a knob. One end of the lower surface of the rotation gear unit accommodates the other end of the holding pin inserted into the output shaft, but the holding pin is held while rotating. The holding pin ticks over in a space in which the holding pin is not held to mutually operate a manual opening and closing knob, and thus the knob of the gas valve can be operated.
