A method for acquiring synchronization, at a user equipment in a wireless communication system, the method comprising: receiving a primary synchronization signal (PSS) without a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) in a first subframe via an extension carrier, the PSS being different from a common reference signal (CRS) and a dedicated reference signal (DRS); receiving a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) on resource blocks (RBs) in one or more second subframes other than the first subframe; and acquiring the synchronization for the extension carrier using the PSS and the CSI-RS instead of using the SSS, wherein when the CSI-RS is used for the synchronization with the extension carrier, the resource blocks (RBs) for the CSI-RS are determined by the following formula: n(NIDcell mod └NDLRB/n┘)+i, i=0, . . . , n, where ‘n’ denotes a total number of the RBs carrying the CSI-RS, NIDcell denotes a cell identifier of a base station, and NDLRB denotes a number of resource blocks included in the entire frequency band of the extension carrier.
