PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine (10) comprising a plurality of cylinders (11) and at least one exhaust gas turbocharger (14), in a turbine (13) of a specific or each exhaust gas turbocharger (14), exhaust gas flown out of the cylinders (11) can expand, and energy obtained at that time is usable in a compressor (16) of the respective exhaust gas turbocharger (14) to compress charge air to be supplied into the cylinders (11). Downstream of the compressor (16) of the respective exhaust-gas turbocharger (14), a charge air cooler (19) is arranged to cool charge air after the same is compressed in the compressor (16) of the respective exhaust gas turbocharger (14).
