APPARATUS FOR LIMITING THE HOLDING CURRENT OF A GATE TURN-OFF THYRISTOR

An apparatus for limiting the holding current of a GTO is specified. The apparatus is part of a drive circuit for turning the GTO on and off and is defined in that a transistor is connected into the current path between the turn-on circuit of the drive circuit and either the gate or the cathode of the gate turn-off thyristor, the control electrode of the transistor being connected to the cathode or to the gate of the gate turn-off thyristor. A pnp transistor is preferably involved in the first case and an npn transistor in the second case. (Figure 2)
