Amidothionophosphonic acid ester compounds of the formula: <IMAGE> (I) in which R is alkyl of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or lower cycloalkyl; Y is hydrogen, halogen or alkyl or alkoxy of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and Z is nitro or cyano; ARE OUTSTANDINGLY EFFECTIVE AS HERBICIDES AND EXHIBIT PARTICULARLY SELECTIVE ACTION.
