At the check-out there is a first conveyor belt(1) which lies next to the cash desk(4) for forwarding the goods to be registered whilst a second conveyor belt (9) which forwards the registered goods to the packing points lies beneath the first belt and when necessary can be drawn out straight to a point behind the cashier's place(3). The packing or delivery compartments (6, 7) lie flush in the conveyor direction with the cashier's place(3) with the base of these compartments dropping down towards the longitudinal side of the unit remote from the conveyor belt(1, 9). - Since the cashier can control the second conveyor belt without moving from her desk a more rational checking-out system is achieved. Those customers who wish to load their shopping into baskets stand out of the way behind the packing stations(6, 7) whilst those wishing to reload their shopping back into trolleys can do so.
