For meeting the peak load an auxiliary circuit with a water storage tank (13), chargeable from the main cycle, is assigned to the main cycle of a thermal power station. The stored energy source is expanded by throttling (14), the vapour fraction thereupon performing work in a peak load turbine (16) or that part of the main turbine (3) designed for this, whilst the unvaporised fraction is fed back by way of the line (21) into the main cycle in such a way that the low pressure extraction points of the main turbine are relieved, thereby increasing the power of the main turbine. The water storage tank is advantageously fed with the condensate of the intermediate superheater (6). <IMAGE>
