The transport container, whose side walls are held between upper and lower longitudinal supports, has ventilation channels in the longitudinal direction of the side walls, which ventilation channels are bounded by walls which form a U-shaped cross-section (12) which is open towards the container, and in which exchangeable ventilation elements arranged in rows in the form of housings (17) are held. For protection against water entering the ventilation elements, the outwardly facing walls of the housings are formed, at least over part of their height, by lamellae (20) which are arranged one above the other, extend parallel to one another in the longitudinal direction of the ventilation elements, are held pivotably about their lower longitudinal edges and can be moved into an overlapping closing position and, by gravity, into an open position which is inclined relative to the vertical. <IMAGE>
