PURPOSE:To excite the surface of a laser medium in a wider range than ever by means of excitation light which is reflected by an elliptic converging/reflecting mirror and heads for the focal point on the other side of the mirror and to decrease the polarization of excitation by providing the position of the focal point on the outside shifted from the center of the laser medium. CONSTITUTION:An excitation lamp 2 is placed in such a way that the center of that coincides with the focal point A of an elliptic converging/reflecting mirror 3 and a laser medium 1 is not placed its center on the focal point B on the other side of the elliptic mirror but is placed approaching the excitation lamp 2 on the major axis of the elliptic mirror within a range that the focal point on the other side of the elliptic mirror is included within the range of the laser medium 1. In such an arrangement, the light to pass through in such a way as to be emitted from the excitation lamp 2 and come into contact to the laser medium 1 comes to reach up to E and F points on the inner side compared with the case of conventional laser oscillators after being reflected by the converging/reflecting mirror 3. This effect becomes a maximum when the laser medium 1 approaches the excitation lamp 2 until the focal point B coincides with the surface of the laser medium 1, and at this time, the whole surface of the laser medium 1 comes to be irradiated with the excitation light. |
