PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify or miniaturize the structure of an apparatus and improve the conversion rate of methanol into hydrogen gas by feeding vaporized oxygen and methanol to catalytic beds having the activity for the oxygen raised from the feeding side toward the discharging side and carrying out the catalytic reaction. SOLUTION: Catalytic beds 11 and 12 on the feeding side and the discharging side having the activity for oxygen raised from the feeding side toward the discharging side are filled in the interior of a nearly cylindrical hollow body 7 installed in a reactor 4 and liquid oxygen and liquid methanol are delivered from respective feed sources 1 and 2 through feed pipes 5 and 6, heated in a heater 3 and vaporized. The vaporized oxygen and methanol are then fed from respective orifices 8a and 8b of a feeder 8 into the interior of the hollow body 7, passed through the catalytic beds 11 and 12 on the feeding side and the discharging side and subjected to partial oxidizing reaction. Thereby, hydrogen gas is generated. The vaporized oxygen and methanol are used to continue the catalytic reaction by heat of reaction if the catalytic reaction is once initiated. As a result, the use of a means for keeping the catalysts warm is not required. |
