PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent neck cracks in a neck without causing insufficient knocking between electrodes of an electron gun of a color cathode-ray tube. SOLUTION: This member for neck-crack prevention comprising metal rings 11a, 11b having an inner diameter somewhat larger than the outer diameter of a neck 3 of a color cathode-ray tube and insulating films 12a, 12b layered in close contact with inner circumferential surfaces of the metal rings 11a, 11b is put to attachment so that the insulating films 12a, 12b come to close contact with an outer circumferential surface of the neck 3 of the CRT. An anode button 6 is grounded while the metal rings 11a, 11b are grounded by using a conductive wire 14. A stem pin part 9 is connected to a negative electrode of a variable voltage power supply 15, a high voltage of alternating current or direct current of -50 to -75 kV is applied thereto, whereby sparks are forcibly generated between electrodes of an electron gun 7, and thus a spot knocking process is performed.
