PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the reduction of the number of components by making in common a member which is used for the power transmission between a reel base and a tape reel at the time of use, and a member for locking the tape reel at the time of nonuse. SOLUTION: This tape cassette 1 is constituted in such a manner that the tape reel 3 is furnished in a cartridge 2 and the tape including a tape-like recording medium 10 is wound around the tape reel 3, and it is provided with a slide control means 15 (engaging projected line) arranged on the lower surface of the tape reel 3 to control the sliding to the facial direction by being pressed in contact with the reel base 26, a pressing means 14 (compression coil spring) for pressing the tape reel 3 to the direction pressed in contact with the reel base. A means 16 to be locked (lock tooth) on the lower surface of the tape reel 3 and a lock member 17 (lock recessed part) arranged on the inner bottom surface of the cartridge to engage with a means 15 to be locked, then the means 16 to be locked and the lock means 17 are engaged by an energizing means 14 at the time of nonuse. When it is used, the lower surface of the tape reel 3 is separated away from the inner bottom surface of the cartridge 2 by the pressurized contact with the slide control means 15 of the reel base so that the means 16 locked and the lock means 17 are disengaged.
