摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical element having a bright image and high contrast and capable of dealing with a color image and animation as a spatial modulation element having a large azimuth angle and excellent in high speed responsiveness. SOLUTION: A laminated body consisting of a transparent non-magnetic single crystal substrate 11 and a single crystal transparent magnetic material layer 12 formed on the surface thereof and having magnetic anisotropy perpendicular to the layer surface is symmetrically held at its upper and lower parts between a first and a second dielectric material multi-layered films 13a and 13b each of which is formed by laminating one pair or plural pairs of two layered dielectric material films having a refractive index different from that of the single crystal transparent magnetic material layer 12. A first and a second polarizers 14a and 14b which construct a pair of polarizers whose axes of polarization are mutually rotated are provided respectively on upper and lower part of a device consisting of the second dielectric material multi-layered film 13b/the transparent non-magnetic single crystal substrate 11/the single crystal transparent magnetic material layer 12/the first dielectric material multi-layered film 13a.</p>
