In an electrochemical measuring cell, an electrolyte chamber (7) is defined by a hydrophilic membrane (11) and contains a highly-viscous electrolyte (8). Pref. the electrolyte is not solid and has a viscosity which is a function of the pore size and thickness of the membrane, such that it leakage rate remains under a predetermined value. The leak rate is pref. not more than half the vol. of the electrolyte chamber during a period in the range from 1-6 months. The electrolyte pref. contains a gelling agent, partic. from the gp. of hydroxyethyl celluloses. |
