The hose or cable reeling mechanism consists of a support with a large reel (1) situated close to the ground and rotated by a cranked handle (2) set at a higher level. A metal or plastics guide tube (4) prevents the hose or cable from wedging between the reel and the ground. The transmission (3) between the handle and reel is in the form of a pulley, belt or chain system, and the handle can be disengaged from its shaft so that it does not turn when the hose or cable is being pulled from the reel, avoiding risk of accidents.
