Disclosed is a discharge machining apparatus for machining an object (1) while applying a voltage to a machining gap formed between an electrode (2) and the object (1) by using an aqueous machining solution as a machining solution. The discharge machining apparatus comprises: an insulation means (12) for electrically insulating between a machine platen (11) for mounting the object (1) thereon and the object (1); a machining solution state measuring instrument (22) for measuring the state of the machining solution; and a machining solution state control means (106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111 and 113) for adjusting the pH value of the machining solution to a value ranging from 8.5 to 10.5 based on the measurement results obtained by the machining solution state measuring instrument (112).
