<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melanin formation inhibitor, a bleaching agent, and a collagenase inhibitor, highly safe to a human body, and exhibiting excellent effects, to provide the melanin formation inhibitor, the bleaching agent, and the collagenase inhibitor, safely formulated with various kinds of compositions, and exhibiting the excellent effects, and to provide an external preparation for the skin, an oral composition and a food, obtained by formulating such the agent. <P>SOLUTION: The melanin formation inhibitor contains an extract of a plant belonging to the genus Uvaria of Annonaceae as an active ingredient. The bleaching agent contains the extract of the plant belonging to the genus Uvaria of Annonaceae as an active ingredient. The collagenase inhibitor contains the extract of the plant belonging to the genus Uvaria of Annonaceae as an active ingredient.
