Vinyl acetate is prepared from ethylene and oxygen by reacting ethylene, oxygen and acetic acid, formed during the process, at 50-300‹ C. and at normal or elevated pressures in the presence of a catalyst containing an elementary noble metal. The reaction product is separated into a gas and liquid phase consisting of vinyl acetate, acetic acid and water. The condensed components are heated in the liquid phase to 100-300‹ C., the acetaldehyde formed is oxidised to acetic acid which is used for the reaction with ethylene and oxygen to form vinyl acetate.</p> |
