An electronic watch comprises a Piezo-electric quartz crystal oscillator coupled by a frequency dividing circuit to a circuit providing pulses for a motor driving indicating mechanism, the frequency dividing circuit being a binary circuit each stage of which divides the frequency by two, and the frequency dividing and pulse providing circuits comprising logic elements and being such that the ratio between the duration and the period of the pulses is different from 0À5. The frequency divider may comprise 14 stages the outputs from two different stages being supplied to a NOR gate comprising transistors T 11 , T 12 Fig. 3, (not shown) to obtain pulses of a desired duration which are applied to a further NOR gate together with an output from the 14th stage of the frequency divider. The output from the further NOR gate renders transistors conducting to provide pulses for operating the motor driving time indicating mechanism. A third NOR gate is also provided to receive the output from the first NOR gate and also a second output from the 14th stage of the frequency divider of opposite phase from the first output. Two series of pulses are thus obtained for operating the motor. In a further embodiment the output from a frequency divider is applied to a control circuit for operating a motor comprising a vibrating strip. The control circuit includes a monostable multi-vibrator the duration of the output pulses from which are controlled in response to a voltage generated by the motor.
