Composite metallic materials consisting of strands of at least two different metals which, looking at a section at right angles to their direction of working are arranged in a chessboard pattern. The metals can be assembled either by casting a lower melting point metal round suitable arranged rods of a higher melting point metal, or they can be welded together during working of a bundle of rods made from the materials. In each case it is necessary to subject the composite to extensive unidirectional working operations.
