PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery having the shortened activating time and good low-temperature discharging characteristics by sticking a sodium compound and/or a potassium compound to a positive active material using nickel hydroxide in which zinc and cobalt form a solid solution. SOLUTION: NaOH, Na2 O, Na2 CO3, NaCl, Na2 SO3 , Na3 PO4 or the like can be given as a sodium compound, and KOH, K2 O, K2 CO3, KCl, K2 SO4 , K3 PO4 or the like can be given as a potassium compound. It is desirable that the sticking amount of a sodium compound and/or a potassium compound is 5 wt.% or less of nickel hydroxide in which zinc and cobalt form a solid solution. It is desirable that the grain diameter of the sodium compound and/or the potassium compound powder is in the range of 10 to 60 μm. The sodium compound and/or the potassium compound is added to nickel hydroxide powder in which zinc and cobalt form a solid solution, binder, conductive agent and water are mixed in it, and paste is formed. Therefore, ion diffusion to a positive electrode is made uniform, and activation is smoothly performed. |
