Hollow solar energy recovery device which is mounted on roofs or other flat surfaces exposed to sunlight is constructed such that the plate element (1) is similar in design to a conventional roof cover e.g. tile, sheet, etc., and can be laid in a similar manner on the rafters and of a house. The plate (1) consists of a upper solar energy absorbing surface (5) and a lower (2) and side (3) wall of heat insulating material. A heat transfer fluid circulates in the space between these two layers and inlets and outlets (6) are provided to couple the fluid to a circulating system.
