Plasma cutting of metals, esp. steel plate - using powders or water bath to prevent environmental pollution

Environmental protection is improved during the plasma of metals, esp. steel plate, where the jet from a plasma burner is surrounded by a layer (a) of fine or coarse powder, expanded material or liq. Layer (a) is applied before or during cutting, directly in front of the cutting zone on and/or under the plate as a flat layer, or is deposited in a line following the cut to be made. The plate is pref. at a distance (d) above layer (a) where d is less than half the plate thickness, and layer (a) is min. twice the plate thickness. The plate may be inclined upwards in the direction of burner travel. Layer (a) may contain substances which are exothermic; produce combustible or noncombustible gases; or absorb harmful gases. Extra energy may be obtd. by using a burner with indirect polarity. Used esp. in maching cutting.
