PURPOSE:To enable to detect focusing at high efficiency and high precision, by selecting several signals in the order of magnitude from absolute value signals of plural photo detection signals from the subject, and utilizing them as focusing detection signals. CONSTITUTION:Focusing detection signal generators F1-Fl are composed of photo detector groups 1A-1L adjacently disposed in the imaging region of an imaging lens of subject, operating circuit groups 2A-2L to generate a signal to represent the absolute value of difference between both signals from adjacent two photo detectors, and devices 3A-3L to select the signal at the specified place of signals of the maximum magnitude from absolute value signals and generate the added sum of signals as the focusing detection signal. Focusing detection signals from devices 3A-3L are fed to a discriminator 21, and a discriminating signal to identify the photo detector group of the maximum level signal in each detection signal is generated, and the focusing position is detected by this signal. |
