Wood-chipping machine knife shaft - has knife side faces at obtuse angle to chipping face

The knife shaft of a wood clipping machine has strip-type knives mounted at intervals along the shaft. The side faces (3,4) of each knife (1) include with its chipping face (2) an obtuse angle (alpha, beta), and the knives overlap in the longitudinal direction. The amount of overlap can be at least equal to the sum of the widths of the overlapping knife side faces projected vertically onto the chipping face. On the side towards the chip cutting, each knife can have steps parallel to the edge, and joined by faces at obtuse angles. Where the knives are inclined to the shaft, the leading side faces can be at a steeper angle to the chipping faces than the trailing ones.
