A hydroponic grass growing unit comprises an enclosure which accommodates a plurality of horizontal seed bed trays 24 in vertically spaced rows. The floor of the enclosure has a sump 14 which contains hydroponic nutrient solution for application to seeds in the trays 24. The trays can be irradiated by a plurality of vertically, elongate, hermetically sealed fluorescent fixtures 26 supported in the enclosure by stand-off members 32. The length of the stand-off members is sufficient to permit hand-cleaning of the walls behind the fixtures 26. <IMAGE> |
