PURPOSE:To always supply the optimum electric power to an electolytic cell by providing a referential electrode in a electrolytic cell, and controlling the power for electrolysis supplied between the anode and cathode so that the detected voltage is constant CONSTITUTION:In the electrolytic cell of solid electrolyte, the electric power required for the reaction is applied between electrodes 4, 5 attached to the both sides of the electrolyte 3. A referential electrode 7 to which no electric power is given is provided at any position in the cell where the reactive fluid in the cell always touches. An oxidation-reduction potential appears on the referential electrode 7 according to the compsn. ratio of the source material and the product, while another oxidation-reduction potential appears on the electrode 5. Difference of these potentials between the referential electrode and the facing electrode 5 appears as the electromotive force. This electromotive force is detected with an electromotive force meter. Then, a proper electrolytic voltage is applied between the active electrode 4 and counter electrode 5 with using a controlling power supply 11 to make the electromotive force on the referential electrode 7 constant. When the supply of the source material is increased, the electrolysis power is increased, while, when the supply of source material decreased, the voltage is automatically decreased. |
