PURPOSE:To obtain a flaw detecting method which is suitable for automation and has the high detecting accuracy. CONSTITUTION:A surface wave probe 4 for a surface wave is brought into contact with the surface of a rotating cylindrical body 2 in the linear state or a strip state close to the linear state in the direction of the rotating axis of the cylindrical body 2 through the film of a contact medium 15. An ultrasonic wave is propagated in the reverse direction of the rotating direction A of the cylindrical body 2 from the surface wave probe 4. The film of the contact medium 15 is not formed on the surface of the cylindrical surface body 2 in the surface-wave propagating region. A defect 14 which is present in the surface layer part of the cylindrical body is detected. In comparison with a manual surface-wave flaw detecting method, the same flaw detecting accuracy is obtained, and the flaw detecting time is shortened to the time of about 1/3. The judgment of the flaw is easy, and there is no missing in detection. |
