PURPOSE:To stably obtain smoothness having high accuracy by heating and smoothing the end face of an optical fiber via a release film made of a specific org. high polymer and parting and cooling the optical fiber while the fiber is held stuck with the release film. CONSTITUTION:The end face of the plastic optical fiber 1 is pressed to a specular surface 4 of a heating element 5 via the release film 3 made of the org. high polymer having >=0.1kg/cm<2> film strength index, <=2X10<1-4>g/mm<2> film weight index, <=1.0mum, surface roughtness, and <=0.10mm film thickness, by which the end face is heated and smoothed. The plastic optical fiber 1 is thereafter parted from the specular surface 4 of the heating body 5 while the release film 3 is held stuck to the end face of the fiber. The fiber is then cooled. The release film 3 is put into a relieved state after the optical fiber 1 after the end face working is removed and, therefore, the release film 3 is renewed and tented by rotating bobbins 6, 6' against the breaking force. |
