摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery excellent even in the high-rate discharging characteristic by improving a hydrogen storage alloy of AB5 type in which at least Ni is substituted with Co using a base of MmNi5 and suppressing drop of the cycle lifetime characteristic and preserving characteristic when this electrode is used in the alkaline storage battery even if the CO content of the alloy is low and a low-cost hydrogen storage alloy is used. SOLUTION: An electrode for battery uses a hydrogen storage ally using a base of Mm-Ni series (Mm is Misch metal), wherein the alloy includes a phase which uses as main phase a MmNi5 alloy phase holding the crystalinity even if the alloy stores hydrogen and another phase which uses as main phase an alloy phase turned amorphous when it stores hydrogen. It should preferably be configured so that the facial part, in particular, of the powder of hydrogen storage alloy is covered with an alloy phase which is turned amorphous when it stores hydrogen. Such an alloy as turned amorphous may be at least one of the Mm2 Ni7 phase, MmNi2 phase, and MmMi3 .
