The system has two sample holders (12,13), each having a pair of mutually spaced pins (15,16), to hold a sample (11) mounting. The pins are arranged on a line perpendicular to the tension direction (14,140), so that two tips (17,18) of a displacement sensor (19) can be connected to the sample, on an imaginary line, engaging centrally-located imaginary pressure points.
